Charles K. Newell, MD

Dr. Newell is a native of the Florida Panhandle. He is from Panama City, Florida and graduated from Bay High School. He attended Florida State University where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biology. He holds both a Masters of Science and Doctor of Medicine degree from The University of Tennessee. His Masters Thesis was centered on the Immunopathology of Herpetic Kerititis one of the most common causes of corneal blindness worldwide. Following Medical School Dr. Newell completed his residency in Ophthalmology at The University of Flor- ida. Following his residency he completed a two year Vitreoretinal Fellowship at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Dr. Newell returned to Tallahassee in 1999 to join Southern Vitreoretinal Associates. Currently he see’s patients in both Tallahassee, Florida and Albany, Georgia. Dr Newell’s clinical areas of interest include macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular surgery, and retinal detachment repair. He also enthusiastically participates in numerous national clinical trials provided at Southern Vitreoretinal Associates. Dr. Newell presents on various subjects which award continuing education to eye doctors in the region. He is active in national and local medical societies and was the Chairman of Ophthalmology for many years at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Despite dedicating a tremendous amount of time to his patients, Dr. Newell enjoys the outdoor activities provided in the panhandle region, traveling, and spending time with his family.
